“4th story”

First published: Sep.08.2017

The greatest childhood moments were all the beautiful fairy tales my mother told us at bedtime. All the stories I share in my blog are memorable tales with important morals that I gathered and translated. And some of the stories are my own.

Once upon a time, there lived a young prince.

The young prince wanted to get married. He knew every girl would marry him for the family’s fame and power, but he wanted to find true love.

He invited all the young girls in his kingdom poor or rich, famous or unknown.

One of the young girls was the daughter of the palace’s gardener. She saw the prince every day from a distance and loved him secretly like all the other girls in the kingdom.

On the day of the party, the Prince handed one flower seed to each girl and announced that he would wed the girl who could develop the most beautiful and healthy flower from this seed.

Like all the other girls, the palace gardener’s daughter planted the seed in a pot and took great care of it, waiting for it to grow.

Weeks passed and the gardener’s daughter did not even see a sprout.

She tried so hard and used different methods of nourishing plants learned by her father, yet there were still no signs of growth.

They had three months to grow their seed and bring their flowerpots to the most important party, for the prince to choose his future bride.

All the girls gathered at the party with beautiful pots full of flowers except the gardener’s daughter whose pot was just full of soil. She walked to the line with shame and disappointment.

The prince greeted all the girls, looked at their flowers carefully, and then announced, “My future wife will be the girl with the honest flower.”

All the girls got excited and looked at each other’s pots, hoping the prince was talking about their flowers.

The prince pointed at the gardener’s daughter with the pot full of soil. He said, “I choose her. She is the most honest girl in my kingdom.

The seed I handed to each of you was infertile and none of you could’ve grown anything. You all lied just to be my wife.”

And so the prince happily married the most honest girl in the kingdom.

Dear friends don’t forget to read my books.

  12. Hey Laleh,

Thank you for sharing this wonderful tale of ‘natural selection’ highlighting the poignancy of ‘honesty and truth’ in all endeavours and undertakings, evermore so in matters of the heart 🙂

It is with a wry smile that I now look back on my life and wistfully wish my mother had shared this fairy tale with me when I was younger. Mad fool that I was inflamed by youth and leaping the high walls of the garden of unholy desire and plucking myself a flowering weed instead of a perennial rose.

You have a beautiful name Laleh, one most fitting for the teller of fragrant tales. A name of Persian and/or Turkish origin, Laleh means Tulip, which carries its own delightful symbolism centred on elegance and grace, and defined by the colour of the flower 🙂 In the exquisite language of Love, Romance and Tragedy a Turkish legend may be responsible for the red tulip’s symbolism. The story tells of a prince named Farhad was love struck by a maiden named Shirin. When Farhad learned that Shirin had been killed, he was so overcome with absolute grief that he killed himself – riding his horse over the edge of a cliff. It’s said that a scarlet tulip sprang up from each droplet of his blood, giving the red tulip the meaning “perfect love.” Aww 🙂

Thank you for visiting Gallybloggers and following our humble blog. Every person visiting is a friend to the Homeless who write on the site: every flower a symbolic rose putting smiles on faces and sunshine back in hearts. Your Tulip is a treasure, thank you.

Hoping all s well in all ways. Take care of one and all in your life.

    God Bless. Namaste 🙂

      • Indeed it is my pleasure…your fairy tale was a delight and your name intrigued me to share 🙂 I imagine your epithet was chosen with great care, a name that has perhaps guided you quietly all of your life? I am a great believer in the power and quality of a name and often ask myself if the name becomes us or we become the name? Certainly in days gone by a name possessed the spirit of the person to whom it was entrusted: knowing someone’s name therefore gave one power over another. I have no such power, you are safe (lol), I just admired your name 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend. Take care.

        God Bless. Namaste 🙂

      • 🙂 Thank you. I was inspired having visited here where I found another who loves Fairy Tales and storytelling traditions. Life really is a Fairy Tales we write ourselves internally. Some wish for a handsome Prince or beautiful Princess at stories end, others perhaps a golden throne or a Kingdom and untold riches. Me I want a never-ending series of destinations through a never-ending set of doors all marked ‘The Journey Starts Here.’ And I want to experience the happiness of that journey with a special friendships and good companionships en route until perhaps one day finally coming to a standstill exhausted but gloriously happy to be laid to rest on the surface of the Sun 🙂 And you Laleh, what is you Fairy Tale and how does it end?

I love the rosy cheeks on the smiles you leave 🙂 How do you do that?

        God Bless. Namaste 🙂

      • Well those are indeed perfectly inspired visions and I most certainly hope the Fairy Tale that has those worthy thoughts featured at journeys end will be one the World writes together: indeed, perhaps you have just written the very first line of a story that could be passed around the world from one country to another to be flavoured and spiced until arriving back with you to pen the last line? Now there’s an idea for a global story 🙂

And what of you personally Laleh the Tulip, what is your personal Fairy Tale…the one fate writes for you?

I imagine you are a smiley type person, one who chuckles, which perhaps explains the red cheeks 🙂

        God Bless. Namaste 🙂

      • Aww 🙂 That is an adorable sentiment and the perfect answer. I trust your sweet fairy-tale never ends 🙂 You know I have often thought that of the three greatest virtues, Faith, Hope, and Love, that Love wears the golden Crown and is supported by Faith and Hope. Perhaps my thoughts are moulded by the wonder of fairy-tales, but I adore the sweetness and sentimentality of happy endings.

I hope you keep crafting your gentle stories infused with your Tulip and the sweetness of a loving heart.

Laughter is a blessed gift. Those who own it share it readily without ever even knowing it. Happiness is infectious.

Thank you for sharing your company for a while on my road…a vision of a field of Tulips helped cut strings still keeping me attached to the week. I am now free metaphorically. Thank you 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend in the wonderland of your blessed fairy-tale 🙂

Take care of one and all.

        God Bless. Namaste 🙂

  21. This is absolutely heart touching and beautifully penned. Thank you for sharing, my heart is overjoyed, it brought me to tears. The lesson of honesty is clear and was shown in the gardeners daughter. She showed up carrying what seem to be an empty pot, for she had done her best, and secretly loved the Prince. While the other girls displayed thriving plant in a beautiful pot. The Prince clever plan, revealed heart, intent and competitiveness of the others. The Gardener’s Daughter didn’t give up, quit or throw in the towel. She showed up caring love for she had nurtured the seed diligently for 3 months, as she continued to walk in love and integrity. Bless you Laleh 🤗🙏💜

This week’s Featured Blogger is Laleh Chini of A Voice from Iran. Laleh was born in the former Persia before the upheaval that led to the current Islamic Republic of Iran. She later moved to the U.S., and then to Canada.
I am perpetually enchanted and enlightened by Laleh’s Persian folk tales and modern fables. She has also co-written an autobiographical novel inspired by her mother’s child-bride marriage to a violent older man, and by Laleh’s subsequent trials as a ‘too-curious’ teenager during the Islamic Revolution.
You’re going to love her unique inspiring Voice from Iran!
