The king’s ring|انگشترپادشاه

This story was written hundreds of years ago by “Saadi Shirazi” The Iranian poet. It relates to these days, so I chose to translate it for my dear friends.

This is a photo of Saadi’s monument in the city of Shiraz.

There was a green and beautiful kingdom.

The king had a unique ring with a precious Gem on it. This valuable Gem shined even at night, and the jewelers couldn’t put a price on it.

Years passed, and the farms went dry. Drought took over the kingdom. People stayed hungry and everyone was suffering.

The king asked his wise men to sell his Gem and pay every single resident to be able to survive for a while.

The king’s minister scolded him, telling him he made a mistake to sell such a precious Gem, as he would never find one like it.

The king started to cry and said: “When a town is dying of hunger, it is the ugliest thing for a king to wear jewelry. My finger without a ring is fine, but my town going hungry is unacceptable. The Gem was beautiful when my kingdom was in peace.”

There were so many ways to control the world better. We didn’t have to go through all of this madness if we all had a caring leader. The world would be at peace if they would think about others. Greed is the only reason why ordinary people always have to suffer, as much as history remembers.

    Unfortunately, it’s not the greed of the common people that cause the problems, though surely it doesn’t help.

    The truth is as in this instructive story. The most important thing for a nation is to have a good and wise leader. Unfortunately, most are possessive and greedy. He only thinks about increasing his property and limiting his freedoms.

    I pray for God’s mercy on this world. I pray for our leaders that He may grant them wisdom. I pray for those losing loved ones or suffering themselves. I pray for those risking their own lives to save the lives of others. Above all, I pray that hearts may once again turn toward God; that the world after this pandemic has passed may be a better one than before the coronavirus struck. ❤
