They once asked an old Wise man: “What did you learn from life? What experiences did you gain?”

He replied:

“I learned that life is a loan and you have to pay it back sooner or later.

I learned that the oppressed will get their rights, no matter what.

I learned that our world will come to an end any second, but we are still negligent.

I learned that sweet talk and a smiling face is the main investment in our lives.

I learned that the wealthiest people are the ones with healthy, secure and peaceful lives.

I learned that if you plant oats, you won’t harvest wheat.

I learned that although life comes to an end, your work never dies.

I learned that if you want people to listen to you, you have to listen to them too.

I learned that the best way to know a person is to travel with them.

I learned that if a person talks a lot about the things he will do, he will never succeed.

I learned that all the people laying in cemeteries had many goals and wishes they were never able to achieve.

And I learned that we should live simple, kind and useful so that saying goodbye to this world won’t be complicated, unkind and wasteful.”

    I like all the words of wisdom spoken by the wise man except one: I learned that the wealthiest people are the ones with healthy, secure and peaceful lives. Could it be that wealthiest could mean full of love and compassion and NOT rich in terms of material possessions?

    Hey Laleh, Namaste 🙂

    I do enjoy your storytelling very much and I’m always left ponderous and pondering the deep spaces in-between your crafted. words. I thought the wise man presented quite a balanced outlook on life: one scented with realism as much flavoured by acceptance and surrender to wisdom itself.

    The line: ‘I learned that all the people laying in cemeteries had many goals and wishes they were never able to achieve’ fascinated me, and still does. Part of me wants to imagine that our end comes when it is intended, which would be when he have achieved what we are here to do. Another part of me accepts what the old man says and I’m inspired to get busy in all areas of life so as not to leave any tick-box unchecked or any stone unturned. I’m not anxious about death per se, I am concerned about the manner in which I die: I’ve never contemplated my death being at the hands of another or external event…I’d always imagined death would arrive at the end of my life by natural processes. I like to think on the these things…I don’t believe we should be afraid of the dark. Equally I believe that we must invest and devote our energies to creative pursuits whenever chance and time allow: whether we die naturally or not, we are always up against time and entropy. .

    The final line is very powerful as well: perhaps when our time has come to transition if we are able to leave this mortal coil knowing that our passing is not complicated, unkind or wasteful, then perhaps we can pass knowing a very deep sense of peace. It certainly gives me something to work towards in my own life: I’d love to go out laughing!

    Regards the images: are you able to identify the characters portrayed? I am just curious 🙂

    Well my weekend has already started, 3.5 hours into Saturday as I type. I should away and get some sleep, but this evening I am feeling restless, potentialised, imminent. I have no idea why lol 🙂

      Yes
      The point is for us to change if we can. I would try to tick-box all my bucket lists as much as possible. I am not afraid of dying at all. It sure will be a new beginning.
      I chose the pictures by their motions. I always like the short stories with pictures, makes my imagination fly far.😊

        Hey Laleh, Namaste 🙂

        Indeed, from birth til grave we are constantly changing and transforming. If we can do that with determination and focus, and with honest and rightful intent, then that’s half the battle won already.

        Death as a new beginning – I hope it will not deliver me back here to Earth for a second visit but offer choices elsewhere in other dimensions: I’ve always been a wandering star so see no reason why that has to desist or why I cannot roam someplace other than Earth? I hope we get granted that choice.

        The final image of the Lantern Bearer is my favourite. I think everyone needs a wizard with a lamp to walk with them through life and journey at their side into both darkness and light. A wizard can only show the way, it’s still up to us to endeavour.

        There’s nothing like a high-flying, far-flying, imagination to bring a smile that would be the envy of the Cheshire Cat from Wonderland 🙂

        Indeed yes! A Genie would be a wonderful new addition to my bag of tricks lol 😀 My mind races towards a far Eastern desert and to a lone tent gilded in the colours of a setting sky. It is an Age of enchantment, a time for great Magic. Powerful forces of good and evil compete for dominion with devastating effect. The Realm is suffering and lives in hope of one who will rise to bring stability to the Forces of Magic. A curtain is drawn aside and the occupant of the tent emerges carrying a lantern. They take a seat by the warming fireside and contemplate all that they hold in their hands. 🙂

        Speaking of which may I leave a little slice of Robin Williams giving a master-class as the Genie in Disney’s Aladdin 🙂 It’s guaranteed to leave a smile! Thank you 🙂

        I still like the symbols you generate, the Genie is awesome…please tell me how to do that one? 🙂

        My pleasure, thank you 🙂 It could well be Apple iPhone related….I use a standard desk-top keyboard so I’m unable to know. I’m sure there are options for creating appropriate and timely symbols somehow using a keyboard…perhaps that it something I could pursue just for a bit of fun and a splash of colour in the comments box 😀

    I like this. I walked through our town cemetery one day… twenty years back, cares heavy upon me, stress twisting me. And I looked at the graves. And I thought, most folk buried here, if not all, had their cares and anxieties. And every one of them died. That was the day I fully embraced life.
