A person who loved painting and drawing participated in a class of a famous painter. For years he worked hard by taking every advice and practicing a lot. One day, the teacher said, “I taught you everything I know. You are a master now and don’t need my help anymore.”

The student wanted to be sure so he drew a painting and then put it in the town square one morning with a note to the public, that said:

“If you can see an error in this painting, please put an ‘X’ on the spot.”

He returned in the afternoon to pick up his painting, it was shocking.

The painting was covered with X’s all over. He was so disappointed by his work and decided to show it to his teacher, the famous painter.

He explained what he did to test himself.

When his teacher saw the painting he asked, “What did your note say?”

The teacher then asked him to draw the same painting again.

When the painting was ready, the teacher asked to put it in the same spot in town, but this time with this note:

“Please, if you can see any error in this painting correct it with the available paints and brushes.”

When he returned to the painting, the painting wasn’t touched at all.

He took the painting to his teacher and said: “My painting has not been changed! How come people did not point out the errors this time?”

The teacher said: “People always criticize everything and point out flaws but don’t dare to fix it.”

  3. So true !! Was thinking of same conclusion when read the first half of the story !! People love to criticise but fear to rectify as it requires the similar skills and justification

  17. Wow! So very true! Before we point out others flaws, we must first look at ourselves and try fixing that first with God’s help! Thank so much for this truthful piece! 🙂

  18. Thank you for sharing your wonderful thoughts (and for visiting my blog!)…people are quick to judge without knowing the full truth, only what they wish to believe… 🙂

Have a great day today, and every day!

A tongue can accuse and carry bad news
The seeds of distrust, it can sow,
So unless you know the truth, that it is not gossip
Be careful of stones that you throw.
