“40th story

282 Words

There lived a rich man with his wife in a town. The rich couple didn’t have children and lived alone with all their fortune in a big mansion.

The rich man didn’t spend a penny on the poor, making everyone in the town despise him deeply.

A generous butcher lived in the town. He donated huge amounts of meat weekly to poor people. The people loved him and respected him dearly.

So many times, people pointed out the butcher’s bigheartedness to the rich man but he ignored them.

The grocery store also donated free commodities to deprived people.

Owners of shoe stores, clothing stores, school supply stores and many more didn’t charge if they felt the customer was underprivileged.

The small medical center in town treated poor patients for free and gave them free medicine.

The rich man didn’t learn from all these generosities and continued living selfishly as he always did. People always anathematized him.

The rich man got sick for a few days and passed away beside the only member of the family, his wife.

No one came to his funeral except the butcher, the grocery guy, and all the store owners and heads of the town. People were mad and said the rich guy didn’t deserve a funeral.

The wife was so sad and couldn’t live in the big mansion alone, she sold everything and moved to a big city.

From that day on, there was no more meat for the butcher to give for free, the poor no longer received free groceries, no patients got free treatment, and no poor kid wore new shoes and clothes, because the rich man and his wife were behind all the generosities.

  9. Remarkable story, Ioved it . it’s not always nice to judge others. You have to be satisfied by heart. Good enough that God sees every thing.

  10. “Generosity consists not of the sum given, but the manner in which it is bestowed.” – Mahatma Gandhi. Though unjustly vilified, the rich man continued his quiet benevolence…true generosity. Although, the rather sad ending gives pause to ponder the what ifs. Thank-you!

  14. For me, the rich couple symbolizes Nature that gives freely without need for praise or gratitude. When Nature dies, we all die.

  45. Wonderful story. Actually stinginess is a disease of the heart. People save save and dream of building mansions. That happiness is not long lasting. True happiness is giving back which is why we see rich people like Bill Gates donating billions.
