“51st story”

A very old neighborhood was growing into a great location for real estate. All the old homes were demolished into beautiful big mansions. There was a small grocery store in that area that everyone knew and it always covered even the smallest necessities of that expanse.

They started to build a supermarket exactly across that grocery store. That wasn’t good news for the owner of the store.

The grocery store owner was very concerned as it was his only way he made a living. The grocery owner tried to find the supermarket’s owner and talk to him about how much his supermarket would destroy his business.

The supermarket owner was a very kind man and promised him that he would solve this problem.

Less than a year passed and the supermarket opened and started the business.

People in the neighborhood, of course, walked to the supermarket to shop and the grocery store owner was so sad and worried.

People filled their carts with a variety of things but they couldn’t find eggs, dairy, and bread.

It was very rare to walk to a supermarket and not be able to see these common commodities. They went to the management and asked the reason.

The owner said: “The grocery across sells bread, eggs, and dairies. It wasn’t our specialty.”

Dairy, bread, and eggs are people’s everyday necessities, so they went to the grocery to buy them. The grocery owner realized how fair that deal was and started to change his grocery to a dairy, bread, and eggs shop.

His sales were even better than before.

“God bless you, my rich competitor, instead of ruining my business you grew it for the better.” The old man said.

    Great story it was all about compassion the owner of the super market could have destroyed the old man’s business but he didn’t. Thanks for sharing

    I love this story! It relates how problems can be resolved without having a winner and a loser. If only this was a widely used strategy in our world, where everyone wants to “win” no matter the cost.

    Instead of being a crab in the bucket, he helped his competitor. You’ll get more success by bringing other ppl up with you. Being greedy never satifies hunger, it only angers the body with its disruption and as a reault you’re hurting. Love this. Always so inspirational Iran. Thank you

    This is a prime example of where we are headed.

    Greed, as we once knew it, is dying out…it is fading away.
    Integrity is replacing it….just as your story shows us.

    Always sad when businesses and developers come in and take down the heart of an area. If the area was depressed with houses falling on top of themselves maybe but why build McMansions? That is the question. I love this compromise and it would be such a beautiful thing if it would truly happen. A nice compromise so all win. Lovely story. Thank you!

    A lovely story. My parents had a small deli when we were growing up. They worked 7 days a week/12 hours a day, but could not, in the end, compete w/ the large chains.

    Beautifully said. I try to divide my purchases between the supermarket nearby and our friendly grocer a little further away.
