“98th story”

A Story by Laleh Chini:

I just remembered a memory in my young 20s. It taught me a lesson.

I was back home in Iran and I was married and had my son. There was a female gathering in a relative’s house and I was getting ready for the party.

My husband was going to stay at home and take care of our son while I’m gone.

When I kissed them goodbye to go to the car to leave, our car didn’t start. Something was wrong. My husband tried to fix it fast, but it was no use.

I couldn’t wait much longer because I was very late for the party. We decided that I’d walk to the main street which was very close to get a taxi.

I walked to the main station and waited for a taxi. A taxi stopped to pick me up, whereas I was telling my destination to see if he can take me there, my brother who had a beautiful, expensive sports car passed by to go to our place and saw me.

He was wondering why I was at the station. He stopped in front of the taxi and pointed at me to get into the car. The taxi driver saw him. I told the taxi driver, thanks for your time but I don’t need a taxi any longer.

The taxi driver said: “Shame on you. You have a wedding ring.

You just saw a fancy car with a rich, handsome boy and decided to get in. I pity the man who married you. How would he ever know what you just did right now? Shame, shame.”

  7. The judge gathers all the information and witnesses for his final judgment, but some people like that taxi driver reveal their judgment without knowing any thing, that is such a shame.

  8. What a wonderful meaningful message in the story. True words of Wisdom. Many times instead of simply asking a simple question, people, would rather assume.
    Great Story 🤗💜🌸

  10. People are so quick to judge without the facts. I am so glad that you didn’t explain yourself.
It goes to show that we should be slow to speak in all things.

  11. Appearances. How we jump at them. never a moment to ask if there’s another interpretation. Always the worst.

A tongue can accuse and carry bad news
The seeds of distrust, it can sow,
So unless you know the truth and only the truth
Be careful of stones that you throw.

  14. A powerful story Laleh! If it had been reversed and a man was getting in the car with a woman, I’m sure nothing would be said!

  17. Hmm. So true. We are not to judge else we’ll be judged back with those same judgements. Read the Chapter of Matthew 7 in the Holy Bible of God. Christ God’s Son reached about this. Blessings & grace to you. ❤

  19. Amazing how people who know nothing about who we are think that they have the right to pass judgment on our behavior!

  21. Many people make hasty judgement like this. If there were need to say shame, it would be rather to him. Probably he goes around loosely with women. That is why he jumped to that conclusion.

  29. Though maybe you judged the taxi driver harshly too Laleh? Maybe he was tired, not earning much, family waiting at home for their father. He was wrong but maybe could be forgiven.

  32. That’s why it’s always said half knowledge is very bad as being quick judgemental like a driver is too harmful.
On the other hand people talk and you can’t stop anyone from talking. It’s upto us how we react.

  35. Definitely blindsided by the ending. Laleh, your writing shares unique moments of surprise with the reader. In this case, the taxi driver needs to check his rearview mirror. He totally missed the honorable wife and mother.
