In a shopping centre, Hilda pointed to two purses and asked Tom: “Which one should I choose?”

Tom: “I like them both.”

Tom was sitting in a chair, and had no knowledge about lady’s purses; to him, they were all the same. Hilda and Tom were in that shop for an hour, the sales-person kindly recommended the blue purse for the 10th time. Tom was really tired, and just wanted to leave.

Hilda compared the white purse with the blue one again, their prices were the same but the white purse was bigger. Hilda finally bought the blue purse and they walked out of the store towards the train station.

On the way, Hilda said: “I should have bought the white purse. It goes with more clothes. I can’t wear a blue purse with a red or green dress, can I?”

Tom said: “If you didn’t like it, why did you buy it? Give it to me, I will run to the store and exchange it for you.”

Hilda: “But our train will leave within 18 minutes.”

Tom: “Give me my ticket. If I don’t make it, you go and I will catch the next one.”

Tom ran towards the shopping centre but in the main intersection, instead of turning right, he ran to the left by mistake.

He noticed that everyone was staring at him and that was very strange. A policewoman stopped Tom and said: “Why are you running with a lady’s purse?”

Tom: “I am going to the shopping centre to exchange it for my wife.”

Policewoman: “The shopping centre is on the right. Show me your receipt.”

Tom looked everywhere, but he couldn’t find the receipt.”I swear I had a receipt.”

Policewoman continued: “I will follow you to the store to see if you are telling the truth.”

Tom walked with the policewoman, towards the shopping centre. They got to the store, and the policewoman asked the salesperson if Tom bought this purse?

The kind salesperson said: “Absolutely.”

Tom said: “I would like to exchange it to the white purse please, while the policewoman left.”

There was a woman buying a black purse and the salesperson had to take her first.

Tom said: “Please I will lose my train.”

The customer said: “I am late too; I have to go home to make dinner.”

The salesperson said: “I have 8 white purses at this price. Do you remember which one your wife liked?”

To Tom, they all looked alike. He tried so hard to remember which one it was, and finally picked the right one and asked for a shopping bag so that the police wouldn’t mistake him for a thief again.

Tom still had 6 minutes left and ran to the train station, but he got on the opposite side by mistake. He had to run across a stair-bridge to get to the correct side and he only had 2 minutes left. He ran so fast up the stairs and finally jumped into the train and the train left the station a second after that.

Tom sighed and said: “Thank goodness I got here on time.”

Hilda opened the bag and screamed: “This isn’t my white purse!!!”

Dear friends;

  11. the lesson here is to insist on buying her both. that way she has more than one option and you don’t miss the train nor get into a situation where you look like a purse snatcher.

  20. It’s good how a man knows what he wants. Even buying a purse will cause trouble as it is uncertain.

  27. Great story Laleh. Any husband should be able to identify with it because I’m certain we have all been in the same spot, just with the wrong color and the right style of purse. Thanks following my writing. I am looking forward to reading more of yours.

  30. This seems to me such an expression of our culture. We are all too often self-centered and materialistic, wholly unaware and unappreciative of the efforts of others on our behalf.

  36. Hilda jest osobą niezdecydowaną, sama nie wie, co jej się podoba. Dlaczego nie pomyślała wcześniej, że niebieska jej nie pasuje. Facet też mylił kierunki i drogę. Śmieszne.
