A big and famous company was hiring only one person. To find the best candidate, they asked one same question from each applier.

The question was: “You are driving on a stormy cold night.

You pass a bus station, which three people are waiting there.

  • An old lady is dying out of the cold weather.

  • A doctor saved your life once before.
  • A girl or a guy, you love to marry one day.

You can only give a ride to one person.

Who would you choose?

In reality, saving each one of them has its good reason, the old lady needs immediate help, and many candidates chose to save her.

Some candidates chose the doctor, and some the person that would like to marry in the future.

From the 200 appliers, the one who was hired had this answer:

“I would give my car key to the doctor so that he could take the old lady to her place, and I wait beside my love, waiting for the bus to come.”

We never give up on our power, belongings, and situation. If we think a little deep and stop being selfish, far our limitation from us, get out of our comfort zone and be more generous we would be able to gain better things in life.

  8. Well, that’s what the business world refers to as “thinking outside the box.” In this particular case, the job applicant chooses to risk his vehicle to pursue his personal interest. Is this the kind of person a company would choose as the best candidate? Just saying 🙂

  18. I also see in your parable the element of compromise as an effective way to decide in such a dilemma. Why don’t we see more of this idea between and among countries?

  22. This story really gave me a wake-up call, Laleh. As I read it, I tried to think what I would do in that situation. I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t think about offering my car keys to the doctor. What a perfect solution to the dilemma! It really makes me think about how I need to “think outside the box” and look for creative ways to respond to people in need. Thank you so much for sharing this story!
