Adam’s father retired after 30 years of hard work. He kept saying the hard-working years had passed, and it was time to relax and enjoy every moment of his golden times.

Nowadays, he gets up early in the morning and walks to the bakery to get fresh bread. Adam’s mother sets the breakfast, and they both enjoy eating it.

Then, Adam’s father sits in his armchair and reads magazines and his favourite books while his mother cleans up the breakfast table and prepares lunch because Adam’s father likes to eat his lunch early. Adam’s mother should clean the house, do the laundry, cook dinner, wash the dishes and prepare the groceries.

Adam’s father loves his retirement times, and relaxing in his armchair is his favourite part. He also enjoys his daily, peaceful walk in the neighbourhood.

Adam was thinking;

“My father worked eight hours a day for thirty years, and now he has a chance to retire. But my mother was available 24/7 for all of us and still has to do so. We still need to eat, and she still has to do groceries, cook, wash dishes, clean the house, do the laundry, and many more.

When is ever going to be Mother’s retirement?

Once in a while, father washes the dishes or peels the potatoes, but he does it for fun. Life is very hard for mothers, and we shouldn’t forget that. They work hard until the day, they rest in peace.

    You’ve hit the nail on the head, Laleh. Unless the family is on a cruise or staying in a hotel, when the family goes on vacation, the mothers still have to fix the meals, do the dishes, and tidy up. What a vacation??!!

    Too true. Mothers are always on duty and I do my best to ensure she has relaxation time too. The best way to do that is get her away from the home and chores and to share the chores. Hope all is well with you. Allan

    Yes, its true no one ever talk about mother’s retirement, the majority of them have to work until the end, God bless all the mothers who always take care of their family.

    Dear Laleh, I wish Adam’s father would help the mother more. My husband shares in household chores so we can enjoy a walk together in the afternoon. Of course, meals are my responsibility, but I like it. I can cook what I think is good and healthy… Thanks for the interesting story. I do enjoy your writing very much. Love from Elisa

    La donna – soprattutto quando è madre, non è un mistero – lavora ed è a disposizione 24 Ore al giorno.
    Fortunatamente nella cultura occidentale e Nelle nuove generazioni si sono distribuiti all’interno della famiglia i compiti.
    Le donne riescono a lavorare e realizzarsi fino a un certo punto : il “tetto di cristallo” che le ferma.
    In Italia dopo la crisi di Governo, dovuta anche alla gestione della pandemia, ne abbiamo uno nuovo composto da 35 uomini e 8 (otto) donne!
    Le donne sono forti e determinate Ma si scontrano con una millenaria cultura maschilista.
    Questo è purtroppo.

    In sintesi : Women are strong and clever but the “glass roof” stops them.
    In Italy after the government crisis, also due to the management of the pandemic, we have a new one made up of 35 men and 8 (eight) women!
    We are strong and we are determined but we clash with a millenary male culture.
    This is unfortunately.

    Sadly true, though it seems that many changes happened, especially in Europe. As for me, I must do a lot in the kitchen or elsewhere. Otherwise, there would be trouble.

    Thanks for sharing this perspective. Many mothers work 8 hours outside the home and still cook, clean, and care for family. Many women who work from home never have a day off because their home is the place of work. Many women are recognized for their contributions to our communities.

    So true. Office work is considered real work and those who go out to work are only considered worthy of enjoying retirement. If all the members of a family share the household chores, the mother’s workload would get reduced, thus ensuring her good health and long life.
