The Local Ad/آگهی محلی

247th story

Adam was looking in the local ads when he saw an antique mirror. He fell in love with it and called the number.

A very kind motherly voice answered. Adam got the location to go there, see the mirror and buy it.

Adam said: ” Can my friend come with me?”

She said: ” Of course.”

Adam and James went to the location, and a kind old woman opened the door. She invited them inside. She pointed to the mirror and said: ” While you are looking, I will bring some tea.”

She brought the tea in a beautiful tea cup set with some cookies.

Adam and James were mesmerized by the old lady’s antiques. There was a pair of candle holders which were breathtaking.

Adam: ” Are those candle holders for sale too?”

The old lady: ” Oh, no. They remind me of my dead husband.”

Adam: ” Can I ask why are you selling the mirror which seems like is part of those candle holders?”

The old lady replied sadly: ” This mirror was the only mirror in our home. It reminds me of the hard days of our life. But we bought the candle holders on the happy years when life turned better for us.”

Adam bought the mirror and they walked out.

On the way back James said: “I learned today that she couldn’t forget the mirror. She couldn’t, no matter how hard she tried. It was a part of her life during the hardest memories. The best thing she did was to get that negative object out of her sight. This allowed her to focus on the positive part of her life.”

Adam: “Me too. From now on I will stick to the things in my life that remind me of happy moments.”

  1. Beautiful and encouraging testament. When we are able to surrender the negative in our lives for something much more positive, we just might better understand the thinking of the woman. Thank you Laleh.
