“88th story”

When my son was a few years old, I bought him a book called “The Lazy Bear.” The simple story made me realize how modestly this book describes our lives.
What a great idea it was that they created animal characters to tell the stories to open our minds. And now the story:
Once there was a very kind squirrel who loved to help others. One day, while the squirrel was running fast, his friends “Monkey” and “Rabbit” asked: “Where are you running to? It’s been a few days that you have been doing this. Is everything alright?”
The squirrel responded: “There is a bear under the big oak tree that can’t move. And is very hungry. I am running to get some fruits for him before he dies of hunger.”
The monkey and rabbit felt so bad and said: “Oh God. We will help him too.”
They gathered some fruits and followed the squirrel towards the bear.
When the monkey and rabbit saw the bear from a distance, they saw a healthy bear. They noticed the bear was abusing the squirrel’s kindness and they didn’t like that.
The monkey stopped the squirrel and whispered into his ear: “The bear is just using you. You are not helping him; You are making him lazier. If you really want to help him, I have a plan.”
The squirrel felt so sad and decided to follow the monkey’s plan. The monkey and the rabbit put all the fruits in a leaf sack and tied it with a rope made of the bobbin. Then the squirrel walked toward the bear with the sack of fruits, and the monkey was holding the rope behind a tree.
The squirrel put the sack in front of the bear, the bear wanted to grab it but the monkey pulled the rope.
The bear had to move and follow the sack. The bear came closer and closer to the sack; The monkey pulled the sack further away from him. The monkey ran faster and faster, making the bear run around for hours.
The bear got tired and was very hungry. He found himself near the river full of fish and jumped into the water to hunt some.
The rabbit and the monkey showed their friend the squirrel, how others could take advantage and we should be careful. Also, how to give someone the help that they really need.

What a lovely story!! I have one more for you…
Once upon a time, there were two neighbors living next to each other. One of them was a retired teacher and another was an insurance agent who had a lot of interest in technology. Both of them had planted different plants in their garden. The retired teacher was giving a small amount of water to his plants and didn’t always give a full attention to them, while the other neighbor interested in technology, had given a lot of water to his plants and looked after them too well.
The retired teacher’s plants were simple but looked good. The insurance agent’s plants were much fuller and greener. One day, during the night, there was a heavy rain and a wind due to a minor storm. Next morning, both of the neighbors came out to inspect the damage to their garden. The neighbor who was an insurance agent saw that his plants came off from the roots and were totally destroyed. But, the retired teacher’s plants were not damaged at all and were standing firm.
The insurance agent neighbor was surprised to see it, he went to the retired teacher and asked, “We both grew the same plants together, I actually looked after my plants better than you did for yours, and even gave them more water. Still, my plants came off from the roots, while yours didn’t. How is that possible?”
The retired teacher smiled and said, “You gave your plants more attention and water, but because of that they didn’t need to work themselves for it. You made it easy for them. While I gave them just an adequate amount of water and let their roots search for more. And, because of that, their roots went deeper and that made their position stronger. That is why my plants survived”.
Moral: This story is about parenting where children are like plants. If everything is given to them, they will not understand the hard work it takes to earn those things. They will not learn to work themselves and respect it. Sometimes it’s best to guide them instead of giving them. Teach them how to walk, but let them follow their path.

This reminds me of one of the fables of Aesop. Of course, we can see that the monkey is the most intelligent member of the animal kingdom.
I know, I have heard many similar stories from different countries and that’s amazing because it shows how we all have the same goals, teaching the best humanity to our generations. Appreciate your comment dear.❤️

A great story full of truth. However, the mentally ill, including me, have been falsely diagnosed as a “lazy bear” in the past. We had no visible reason that we cannot work. We stayed in bed all day. People questioned our motive, our character, our relationship with Jesus. We have had “friends” like Job’s: “miserable comforters.” Rather that making an initial assumption and accusing and tricking someone, maybe talking to them and finding out what is going on in their life would be more productive. This is a great story, but it is based on superficial assumption and is superficial in its reasoning. Perhaps you have a story that fits my situation better?
