It was the Short Film Festival of people’s choice.  They had to vote for the best Short Film.

All were interested in watching, describing, and analyzing each one as we all love to do.

They watched many of the movies and enjoyed them.

The last short film was about to start and people got even more excited because they could vote after this last one.

The film starts with an image of a ceiling. Two minutes passed and people were waiting to see what would happen next. Four more minutes passed and the camera was still on the ceiling.

Some of the spectators left the cinema in anger. Eight minutes of the ten-minute film passed and the camera never left the ceiling. It was really boring and frustrating.

Everyone was mumbling and some were swearing. The film was going nowhere and didn’t seem like it would get any positive reviews or votes.

When the film reached the nine-minute mark, the camera moved to a young child lying on a bed who was paralyzed from the neck down by an accident caused by a drunk careless driver.

Then there came a writing:

“This was just ten minutes of my life and most of you weren’t patient enough to watch the film, now you know what the rest of my life looks like. Please be thankful for your health and abilities. Drive sober, other people care about their lives if you don’t for yours.”

Had I been there….. I would have stayed for the whole film! After 57 seconds of ONLY a ceiling, it would have become obvious to me that there was going be a powerful ending!

In California, USA, there is a hands-off-law for cell phones when driving. You are NOT to touch your phone while driving!
    Thank you again!

    • Thanks dear Ren it shows how caring and loving person you are. We do have great punishments for any kind of careless drivers here in Canada as well but unfortunately every night there is sad news about these kind of accidents. ❤️

  7. Another power-packed story, Laleh.

  22. Wow! Impacting! Powerful Unforgettable

  23. Thanks for following my blog; you are very kind.

  24. Thanks for being such a special international friend. May our friendship have no end.

  25. Great story, as usual.

  26. I admit, I would have been getting antsy after a nine minutes of watching a movie featuring one shot of a ceiling, but quite the payoff at the end. A drunk driver left my friend’s father paralyzed and bedridden for decades.

  27. Awesome. An over-used term, but well deserved here.

  28. Profound and powerful, you nailed it Laleh!

  29. Great surprise ending! And a great message.

Writing tip– in the narration, none of the sentences have any commas. If you structure your sentences with dependent clauses, and commas between two independent clauses, it will create better writing flow.

  30. Oh my – the power of cinema. Hey

  31. A well needed post! There’s a lot more to life, than just the glimpses we get to see. If we take a moment, we just might see; that it’s not all about us, and our needs!

  32. Film festival are always fascinating,no matter the kind❤️

  33. Awwwn. The story got me emotional. Love your blog. If we have patient people in the world, everyone’s life will be enjoyable. Your stories always come with a great message.

  34. Die zal wel ingeslagen zijn als een bom

  35. Na al dat wachten zal hij wel ingeslagen zijn als een bom

  36. Wonderful post and such a meaningful message. Poor young child! So true about patience, too. Bless you, Laleh. 💐

  37. So very powerful. Wow. Thank You, Laleh. ❤️❤️❤️

  38. The film strikes at the heart of this young person’s life, filled with raw emptiness. When one gets behind the wheel of a car, there is the greatest need to use its size and energy in the safest manner.

  39. Another interesting tale!

  40. A simple story with a powerful message. That’s what makes your stories more special.

  41. This short film should have been rewarded as the winner.

  42. *clap hands* A fantastic film 🙂 Very meaningful! They can use it for a drunk driving prevention program.

  43. Wow that was powerful! I can’t stop thinking about it.

This post also reminded me of the only Iranian movie I’ve seen: A Taste of Cherry. That was a long time ago, but it was also powerful.
