“102nd story”
A story by Laleh Chini:
Mr. Sodi was a rich man living in a good part of the city. He was in his late 70s.
He lived in a big garden in a very long alley. Everyone knew him in that area.
He was a quiet person. He had someone to get groceries for him and clean the house. The only time he drove his expensive car and got out of the house was when he took his wife to the doctor or to pick up her prescriptions from the local pharmacy.
His wife was very sick and could only walk a few steps to the car or bathroom; she was mostly in bed. One day when he went out with his car to buy his wife’s prescription, on his way in the long alley, a decent middle-aged woman asked for a ride to the main intersection to be able to get a bus or taxi.
Mr. Sodi was kind enough to think ‘why not help this lady.’ He stopped and the lady sat in the rear seat. A few minutes later after they got to the main intersection, he stopped and pointed at the bus station to the lady. She said: “You look like a rich person. Give me $1000 or I will scream and tell everyone you were trying to take advantage of me.”
Mr. Sodi said: “My wife is always right. Every time I give a ride to someone in this long alley, she remonstrated me. She believed each and everyone would do what you are doing right now. It never happened before, other people were more human and were thankful for the ride. But look at you. You think I will give you even a penny for your parasitic personality?”
She replied: “I will scream in this crowded place and people will turn you to the police, your life will be ruined. You are rich, $1000 is pocket money for you. Don’t argue with me, pay me so I will leave quietly.”
Mr. Sodi pulled his window down and yelled: “Officer, Officer Martin?! Please come and see what this woman wants!”
When Officer Martin walked towards Mr. Sodi while waving hand as if to say hi, that ungrateful lady disappeared like the wind.

Yea, I guess. Bad people. I know they exist (how could I not when the news is always full of such stories) but I tend to see those who are good, and those who, for whatever reason, are struggling (financially, emotionally)

It’s such an educational story. It’s good that he was not intimidated by a woman who wanted to get money for free. Not all people are kind and cordial. It is a pity that the most important thing is for some people.
