The Tiny House/خانه کوچک

“7th story”

Once upon a time,

a poor man lived in a tiny house with his wife and five children. The house was too small and it only had one room. They used the little space as their kitchen, living room, and bedroom.

He had a cow, a goat, and a few chickens in his small yard. Their living space put them under pressure. It was difficult to fit all seven of them in one room. Therefore, they complained every night at sleeping time. One day he decides to go to the village’s wise man and ask him for a solution.

The wise man listened to his situation and said: “Bring the chickens to your room tonight to sleep with all of you.”

The poor man said: “But we already don’t have enough space for ourselves!”

The wise man said: “If you want your problem to be solved, do as I tell you.”

That night, the poor man brought the chickens inside the house.

The poor man and his family didn’t get a single minute of sleep that night. He went to see the wise man again the next day and told him about their difficult night.

The wise man said: “Tonight, you should bring the goat and the chickens to your room.”

The wise man said: “Tonight, you should bring the goat and the chickens to your room.”

The poor man left angrily but did what he was told. That night was even worse.

The next day he went to see the wise man again.

The wise man said: “Tonight, your cow is coming to your room as well as the goat and the chickens.”

The poor man mumbled and left. That tiny room didn’t have enough space to fit the cow so everyone stood side by side until the morning.

The next day the wise man said: “Tonight, take all of your animals outside and sleep without them, come to me tomorrow and let me know what happened.”

The poor man and his family slept comfortably all night without any problems. The next morning, he went to the wise man and said that he never had such a wonderful sleep in years.

The wise man said: “This is exactly how we are. When we have something, we don’t appreciate it. If we lose it then we realize how precious it was. We need to be patient and thankful for what we have.”

Dear friends don’t forget to read my books.

I love tales like this one from Laleh in Iran 😉

  9. This was such a good story with a valuable lesson.

  10. This is a wonderful story. I really enjoyed it. Thank you.

minor edit: “man and [ask] him”
Also, if you introduce dialogue with a verb (e.g., said), a comma should follow the verb, not a colon.

  11. Thanks for linking up to my short story contest.

  12. Very nice. Things and experiences are relative. Something is bad in comparison of something good. Darkness is the zone of minimum light, but the light is still there. Your story explains this idea so well.

  13. Brilliant parable. Well done.

  14. Wonderful story. Well spoken.

  15. Hi Laleh: I enjoyed this story very much and I also re-blogged it, it has a great lesson!Thank you!

  22. So much to appreciate when we realize the alternative situations “could be much worse!!” Thanks again for a lesson within a great story, Laleh. ❤️

  23. Reblogged this on Blue Dragon Journal.

  24. Now that is a message to be shouted out loud!

  25. Did not see where that was going. Gratitude is so important. Thank you for the reminder.

  26. Lovely read – enjoyed that. I’m an optimistic person but we are humans are inherent with not appreciating what we have forsaking our luck at what we ‘don’t have’. Thanks.

  27. I love reading these. Thank you.

  28. So true. Being grateful for what we have is a sure way to an abundant life

  29. Loved it 👌🏻❤️

  30. A very disturbing story of the way in which the “wise men” in our society maintain the poor in poverty. While they guard the wealth for themselves, they say: “Be contented with your lot. It could be much worse.”

  31. rocked to your roll
    but life has indeed taken
    somewhat of a toll!

  32. 🙂 I’m glad there are no chickens in the house today! Something I hadn’t thought of earlier!

  33. Laleh this is a wonderful life lesson. The wiseman was clever. It is important to appreciate what we do have they had a house to sleep. Bringing the farm animals in shifted focus. They had shelter. He soon realized it was bigger and quieter then he thought when they got a good nights rest.

  34. A very wise and profound story. Thank you.

  35. Wow what a wise story
    👌👌👌

  36. Certainly a tough advise from the wise man, but gratitude and appreciation wins over complaining.

  37. Thankful for everything indeed! Don’t sweat the small stuff, and try not to lose sight… of the little things! Blessings!

  38. Love the story. Beautiful. And thank you for visiting me 🤗🌹

  39. The wise man was right in one thing: we don’t appreciate what we have, we can’t enjoy having things, we just want them to have more and more. And we will never satisfy saturation with purchases, newer models are produced. Science through wisdom goes best to people.
    Regards

  44. Wonderfully woven story with a great message. Loved it Laleh ❤

  45. Wise indeed! Thanks for sharing this brilliant story, Laleh 🙂

  46. This tale cleverly illustrates the concept of perspective and gratitude. By exacerbating their situation temporarily, the wise man instilled in the family a newfound appreciation for their prior circumstances, a valuable lesson in recognizing and cherishing what we have.

  47. Another wonderful lesson for us, Laleh. Thank you.

  48. Such an encouraging story. It fills my day with a more energized step. Thank you Laleh.

  49. A lovely bedtime story with the great pictures!
