A teacher asked his students, “In your opinion, what makes a person beautiful?”

Each student answered according to their own understanding.
One said, “Large, attractive eyes.”
Another said, “A tall and graceful figure.”
A third replied, “Having a beautiful voice.”

Each of them described outward features, things that can be seen at a glance, admired from a distance, and praised by others.
The teacher listened patiently without interrupting. Then, without saying a word, he placed two bowls in front of them.

He said, “Look carefully at these two bowls. The first one is made of pure gold, beautifully crafted and shining brightly. But inside it, there is poison.
The second bowl is simple and made of clay, plain and ordinary. But inside it, there is fresh, pure water. Now tell me, from which bowl would you drink?”

The students answered in unison, “From the clay bowl.”
The teacher smiled gently and said, “The moment you understood what was inside the bowls, their outer appearance no longer mattered to you. The gold lost its attraction, and the clay no longer seemed worthless.”

He continued, “A human being is just like these bowls. The body is like the outer shape, the gold or the clay. But what truly matters is what lies within. If the inside is filled with kindness, honesty, compassion, and good character, then that person is truly beautiful, even if their appearance is simple.
But if the inside is filled with jealousy, pride, cruelty, or hatred, then no matter how beautiful their face may be, it is like a golden bowl filled with poison.”

The teacher looked at his students thoughtfully and added, “We spend so much time trying to beautify our faces, our clothes, and our outward image. Yet real beauty begins within. It is our character, our intentions, our behaviour, and the way we treat others that define our true worth.”

He concluded, “Strive to beautify your character rather than your appearance. Because outward beauty fades with time, but inner beauty grows deeper and brighter with every good deed. A beautiful face may attract attention, but a beautiful soul earns respect, love, and lasting admiration.”
